Ohio Digital Network Content Providers can opt to upload their institution’s copyright free materials to Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia Commons is a collection of freely usable media files from thousands of institutions. Providers find benefits from adding materials to Wikimedia through increased usage, and visibility.

In order for items to be eligible for Wikimedia, items must have a rights statement that is copyright free. Items may be reused without attribution. Items are often shared in Wikipedia articles, which increases visibility of historical heritage collections.
