Similar to dime novels but lower priced and targeted for children, nickel weeklies were an extremely popular entertainment in late 19th and early 20th century America. One such series, Tip Top Weekly, introduced the character of Frank Merriwell, who lived on in comics, film, and even a Broadway play, long after the demise of the nickel weekly.
